Passive optical component characterization
The optical vector analyzers from Polytec are the first choice when it comes to characterizing passive optical components such as Bragg gratings, DWDM filters, dispersion compensators, ROADMs and so on. In a single pass lasting just a few seconds, you use them to record the complete complex transfer matrix from which all the relevant parameters – such as the insertion loss (IL), polarization-dependent loss (PDL), return loss (RL), polarization mode dispersion (PMD), group delay (DG) and chromatic dispersion (CD), to name but a few examples – are obtained across the wavelength. You can also use the device as an ultra-high-resolution reflectometer, based on the OFDR principle, by incorporating a software extension.
The OVA range’s properties:
Measurement parameters: IL, PDL, RL, GD, CD, PMD (first and second order), phase response, impulse response, complex Jones matrix elements, phase ripple
- Wavelength range: 1,270–1,340 nm (OVA 5113) or 1,525–1,610 nm (OVA 5100)
- Spectral resolution: 1.6 pm
- Dynamics (IL): up to 80 dB
- Measuring time: 1 s (real-time mode), 55 s (precision mode)
