High-intensity Xenon pulses for rapid surface disinfection
The XENON Z-1000 and Z-2000 use high-intensity Pulsed Light for rapid, chemical-free microbial inactivation on surfaces. Short, high-peak-power pulses generate a broad spectrum including germicidal UVC wavelengths. Unlike conventional mercury UV lamps, the light is generated by a flashlamp filled with inert xenon gas.
- The Z-1000 is a powerful and highly configurable platform for research, process development, pilot production and OEM integration.
- The Z-2000 is specifically designed for integration with conveyor systems, enabling surface disinfection during ongoing production.
Together, the two systems cover requirements ranging from Pulsed Light process development to industrial inline applications.
Z-1000
- High pulse energy
- of up to 505 J per pulse
- Short pulses
- for high optical peak power
- Flexible configurations
- for research, pilot production and OEM applications
Flexible platform for research, pilot and OEM applications
The XENON Z-1000 is a configurable high-energy Pulsed Light system for rapid surface disinfection. Depending on the application, it can be configured as a laboratory system with a treatment chamber, as a system for pilot or small-scale production, or as a modular OEM solution for integration into industrial equipment.
Its linear 16" xenon flashlamp delivers a pulse fluence of up to 1.27 J/cm² at a distance of 1.93 cm. Electrical pulse energy is 505 J at a maximum pulse rate of 3 pulses per second and a pulse duration of 360 µs.
In a study documented in the XENON data sheet, three pulses delivered within one second at a total dose of 3.8 J/cm² achieved a reduction of more than 6 log10 in Bacillus subtilis spores. Actual microbial reduction depends on the application and factors including microorganism, dose, distance and surface characteristics.

Research
For research and feasibility studies, the Z-1000 can be configured with a treatment chamber and separate benchtop controller. The stainless-steel chamber features a removable sample tray with eleven positions, allowing different distances and exposure intensities to be evaluated.
Pilot
For pilot or small-scale production, a configuration with a benchtop controller and separate air-cooled lamp housing is available. The system can be operated from the front panel or via an external PLC. Optional dual-lamp operation using XENON InterWeave™ technology is available.
OEM
For integration into larger production systems, the Z-1000 is available with a modular controller, high-voltage power supply and separate lamp housing. An optically isolated I/O interface facilitates integration with customer PLC systems.
Scalable pulsed light with daisy-chaining
Individual CIXL systems are ideal for compact treatment areas. For larger surfaces or complex geometries, multiple units can be combined. Distributed positioning of the light sources helps reduce shadowing and allows surfaces to be treated from different directions. This makes it easy to scale the Pulsed Light solution to different process and equipment requirements.
Optional process monitoring
The LiteMark-XL™ Light Intensity Monitor is available for the Z-1000. It monitors the relative intensity of the xenon flashlamp in real time, allowing degradation in lamp performance to be detected during its operating life. This helps users plan lamp replacement before output falls below a defined minimum level. An optional Data Logger system is also available for continuous acquisition and evaluation of monitoring data.
Typical applications
- Microbial inactivation research
- Feasibility studies and process development
- Disinfection of food and packaging surfaces
- Pilot and small-scale production
- Pulsed light process development and validation
- OEM integration into industrial production equipment

Pulsed light for inline conveyor disinfection
The XENON Z-2000 is a fully integrated Pulsed Light system designed to sanitize conveyor surfaces during ongoing production. This enables conveyor treatment throughout the day rather than relying exclusively on cleaning cycles performed during production shutdowns.
The compact single-lamp system is designed for conveyor widths of up to 30" (762 mm) and can be integrated into existing production lines with minimal disruption to production flow.

The lamp housing and electrical cabinet are designed for wash-down environments and specified as IP-67K in the data sheet, making the Z-2000 particularly suitable for demanding production environments involving high humidity or regular wash-down procedures.
Two pulse operating options accommodate different process requirements: high pulse energy at 505 J and up to 3 pulses per second, or a high pulse rate of up to 100 pulses per second at 9.4 J per pulse.

Typical applications
- Inline conveyor belt disinfection
- Continuous decontamination of conveyor surfaces during production
- Food processing and hygiene-critical production lines
- Applications involving regular wash-down procedures
- High-humidity and low-temperature production environments
