Process-Integrated Thickness Measurement
Terahertz systems measure non-contact and non-destructively in real time. They penetrate materials without damaging them and provide precise data on layer thickness, material homogeneity, and hidden defects.
The Irys system from das-Nano was specifically developed for non-contact thickness measurement and is widely used in automotive paint quality control. The system measures up to five different layers with micrometer-level accuracy.

- Easy integration into automated processes
- Extremely fast and highly precise
- very versatile
- Intuitive software and automated reporting
- Safe for users due to non-ionizing radiation
Efficient, Non-Destructive Layer Measurement for Automated Automotive Painting
For efficient and precise automotive paint processes, you can monitor layer structures independently of the material and completely non-destructively – directly in the process and with reliable quality control.
Irys terahertz measurement systems fully meet these requirements and integrate seamlessly into automated, robot-assisted processes.

Outstanding Flexibility
The system integrates seamlessly into existing production environments and works with standard robots as well as established quality control systems. A triangulation system with three lasers keeps the sensor head precisely aligned orthogonally, even on curved surfaces.
Cable lengths of up to 30 meters provide high installation flexibility without compromising signal quality or measurement performance.
An optional second sensor head further increases throughput: a single controller operates two robots simultaneously and performs parallel measurements – ideal for high-volume production environments.
The IP54 protection class reliably protects the system against dust and water spray, supporting operation in demanding industrial conditions. The system measures dry, wet, and cured coatings across different production stages and works on metals, composites, and plastics without recalibration.
