Replace your optical sensors for speed & length measurement, save 15%
This program offers an attractive 15% for substituting your old optical sensors (regardless of its brand or age) and swapping for the latest generation of Polytec ProSpeed - model LSV-2100 or LSV-1100.
Length and speed sensors are indispensable gauges in manufacturing lines and process control. They are used in the essential processes throughout the production of steel, paper & cardboard, converting, and wood or construction materials.
Polytec LSV Laser Surface Velocimeters based on the laser Doppler effect measure with interferometric precision and utmost reliability. Knowing the exact length and the current velocity is key for optimizing your manufacturing process, and finally for saving material, downtime and cost.

Terms & conditions of modernization program
Replace your old device and purchase a new LSV from Polytec with an exclusive discount of 15% off the net list price. Place your order until October 30, 2026 and take delivery of your new Polytec sensor by December 18, 2026, at the latest. Proof of disposal/ removal of the old device including its serial number must be provided within 30 days of receipt (no transportation to Polytec needed).
You are free to chose your appropriate configuration, which may differ from your old inststallation. However, disposing off accessories only does not qualify for the discount. Mandatory requirement is the disposal of a complete old sensor, while in return purchasing a minimum of one complete sensor from Polytec.

Highlights of optical encoders
//- More reliable in-line measurement of length, speed +standstill w/ fast signal response
- Laser precision without contact, slippage and wear
- Wear-free calibrated optical sensors for min. downtime
- Robust sensor technology for harsh and hot environments (IP66 and IP67); certified mechanical shock and vibration resistance
- Compensates varying distances from "jumping" material by large depth-of-field up to 200 mm
- Easy integration with all common interfaces (serial, Ethernet, fieldbus, or even web interface)
Applications of LSV laser sensors in industrial manufacturing lines

Length measurement examples
Monitoring of the exact lenght in wood, construction materials such as insulation, wool or gypsum boards, measuring steel sheets in rolling mills. Also positon monitoring for welding processes, NDT or defect detection, for coil winding, labeling and marking jobs on converting or laminate floor production and more.

Speed monitoring tasks
- E.g. monitoring the red-hot strand length & speed measurement in continuous casting lines, speed monitoring in cold rolling, thickness measurement and roll gap control. Also synchronizing cut-speed and shearing processes on sheet metals, textiles or piece goods, velocity synchronization e.g. for welding in tubes or pipes or synchronization of the drive or strip tension in roll stands etc.

Cut-to-length, cropping & shearing
- Cut‑length control for stationary or flying saws on wood, shears in converting, knives, slitters in plastics and textiles, or rotary saws on tubes. Length verification of cut products and material tracking for downstream operations or quality allocation, and more...
How it works: optical encoders for in-line process control
ProSpeed® as the optical alternative sensor solution compared to encoders or encoder wheels use the laser Doppler effect to evaluate the laser light scattered back from the moving object. Two laser beams super-imposed on the surface generate an interference pattern of bright and dark fringes. As the surface moves through the fringe pattern, the intensity of the light scattered back modulates in frequency. This modulation frequency measured by the photo receiver of the sensor system is directly proportional to the surface velocity.
