The starting point
In animal feed production, processing raw materials from powder to pellet requires strict safety standards and precise quality monitoring. Fluctuations in moisture, fat, and protein content directly affect product quality, energy consumption during pelleting, and overall line efficiency.
Traditional laboratory testing methods create delays and leave feed manufacturers blind to real-time variations during high-throughput processing. Without continuous, safe inline visibility into process parameters, operators cannot adjust recipes dynamically or prevent equipment strain and high energy peaks during pelletization.
What we built
Dust-EX inline inspection: An explosion-proof, robust NIR measuring head (dust-EX design) was integrated directly into critical process points—such as the mixer, feed hopper, and pellet mill feeder—ensuring maximum operational safety in dust-laden environments. The system continuously measures critical components like moisture, fat, and protein in less than 1 seconds per measurement.
By connecting up to 6 measuring heads to a single spectrometer, the system monitors multiple processing stages simultaneously without interrupting production. Process parameters are optimized dynamically (e.g., precise water or fat addition at the mixer), stabilizing the production flow before the material reaches the pellet mill.

What it delivered
- Maximized safety: Explosion-proof dust-EX design ensures secure, reliable operation in demanding, dust-intensive feed production environments.
- Consistent feed quality: Continuous inline monitoring guarantees uniform moisture, fat, and protein levels, reducing fines and stabilizing pellet quality.
- Energy savings & cost reduction: Minimized recipe safety buffers and reduced peak loads on the pellet mill significantly lower energy consumption and overall production costs.
