OEM NIR spectrometers based on our Polychromator

The core component of our NIR spectrometer systems is the Polychromator. This assembly combines advanced diode array and 3D transmission grating technology. The advantage of this technology is an optimized light throughput resulting from the higher regularity of VPH gratings (Volume Phase Holographic Gratings). The grating structure is additionally provided with an anti-reflective coating, which increases the efficiency and thus enables a higher temporal resolution.

  • High sensitivity with high spectra rates creates reliable data even for high-throughput facilities
  • Tightly specified wavelength ranges to match your material requirements
  • Long-term stability and ready for automatic calibration for highest process uptime
  • SMA connection for standard fibers and Ethernet interface for easy integration

Why Polytec for your custom NIR analyzer or OEM module

Customization is not an exception at Polytec—it is where our process analytics business began. Optics design, polychromator assembly, sensor head manufacturing and calibration software all sit in-house, so a different spectral range, a modified housing or another data interface is an engineering decision rather than a supply chain project. Describe what your process needs and our specialists will work out which modules get you there.

More than 2,000 units in the field

Polytec process analyzers have monitored production lines for decades. That field experience goes into every custom design.

Customization is the default

Custom and OEM builds are core business here. Our engineers take on the awkward requirements instead of routing you to a standard product.

Modular by design

Spectrometer, sensor head, flange and software are separate building blocks, so most custom configurations reuse proven modules: shorter lead times and no development risk.

Building solutions since 1967

Decades of engineering and manufacturing go into every system, and our service teams support your OEM module wherever your machines ship - today and tomorrow.

Q&A for custom NIR analyzers and OEM modules

What can be customized on a Polytec NIR analyzer?

Spectrometer, sensor head, flange and software are separate building blocks.

Spectrometer, sensor head, flange and software are separate building blocks, so each can be adapted on its own: the spectral range and resolution through the choice of polychromator module, the sensor head housing and protection level, the flange or bracket for the installation point, and the software for acquisition, analysis and process control.

Building blocks

Spectrometer, sensor head, flange and mounting, software modules.

Typical adaptations

Spectral range, housing and protection, mounting geometry, data interface.

Which OEM spectrometer modules are available, and what do they cover?

PSS-M series polychromator modules in two spectral ranges.

Polytec OEM modules are supplied as PSS-M series polychromator assemblies in two spectral ranges. The 850 to 1650 nm models are the PSS-M-172 with a 256-pixel InGaAs detector and resolution from below 6.4 nm, and the PSS-M-175 with 512 pixels and resolution from below 3.2 nm. The 1100 to 2100 nm range is covered by the PSS-M-212 and PSS-M-222.

850 to 1650 nm

PSS-M-172 (256 pixels, from <6.4 nm) and PSS-M-175 (512 pixels, from <3.2 nm).

1100 to 2100 nm

PSS-M-212 and PSS-M-222.

How is an OEM module integrated into our own device?

SMA 905 fiber connector, Ethernet interface, integrated dark signal correction.

Each module carries an SMA 905 fiber-optic connector for the sensor head and an Ethernet interface for the data, with integrated dark signal correction so no external referencing hardware is needed. The compact, integrable design is intended for embedding into your own device or machine rather than mounting as a standalone instrument.

Optical connection

SMA 905 fiber-optic connector for standard fibers.

Data interface

Ethernet, with integrated dark signal correction.

Can OEM spectrometers carry our own branding?

Yes - OEM spectrometers are built with the customer own branding.

Yes. Polytec OEM spectrometers are built with the customer own branding, so the module matches the appearance of the overall system it is built into.

What is adapted

Branding and labelling of the module housing.

Why it matters

The module reads as part of your product, not as a bought-in component.

Can the sensor head be adapted to our process environment?

Housing and protection can be adapted; flanges and brackets are customized.

Polytec NIR probes are compact and hygienic by design and fit into almost any existing process environment. Where a process needs more, the housing and protection level can be adapted. Flanges with sapphire windows let the sensor head be removed without interrupting production, and customized brackets and high-pressure adapters are available for special requirements.

Housing

Adapted housing and protection level on request.

Mounting

Sapphire-window flanges, customized brackets, high-pressure adapters.

Which technology is inside a Polytec OEM spectrometer?

A polychromator combining a diode array with a VPH transmission grating.

The polychromator combines a diode array detector with 3D transmission grating technology. VPH gratings give a more regular grating structure and therefore better light throughput, and an anti-reflective coating raises the efficiency further, which is what enables high spectra rates. Scattered light is extremely low, with a contrast ratio better than 1:50,000.

Design

Diode array detector with anti-reflective coated VPH transmission grating.

Stray light

Contrast ratio better than 1:50,000.

Are there constraints on quantity, lead time or how far a design can be changed?

It depends on the complexity of the change - talk to us early.

There is no single answer, because the effort depends entirely on what changes. A different fixture hole or bracket is a small step. A new Ex or hygienic housing with the corresponding certification is a project in its own right. Quantity, lead time and engineering effort are therefore agreed per project, and the earlier you describe the requirement, the more precisely we can scope it.

Small changes

Mounting geometry, brackets, fixture holes, software configuration.

Project-scale changes

New housings, protection classes, certified Ex or hygienic designs.
