Polytec’s PSV-400-3D Scanning Vibrometer has become an invaluable tool especially for automotive and aerospace development. Despite its high level of sophistication and performance, it is based on a simple physical principle: the Doppler effect. In our brand new demo video, we show how the PSV-400-3D Scanning Vibrometer works and how it is operated.

NEW: High Frequency PSV-400-3D-M Scanning Vibrometer
For Ultrasonic Time-Domain Measurements in 3-D
Designed for full-field vibration measurements at high frequencies, Polytec has extended 3-D Scanning Vibrometry to include ultrasonic applications by installingnew digital decoders featuring 1 MHz bandwidth. This enables time-domain measurements at much higher temporal resolution, for example when determining the propagation of Lamb waves for nondestructive material testing.
To properly characterize ultrasonic drives, actuators or sensors, a new, high-resolution camera system including a zoom objective provides a very precise definition of the measurement points. The geometry measurement is supported by a special image processor. When working with geometry import (e.g. from FE models), the basic alignment of the system is simplified by using a high precision reference object.

Principle of the PSV-400-3D
Polytec's PSV-400-3D is based on the technology of the well-established PSV (Polytec Scanning Vibrometer). By using three independent scanning vibrometer sensor heads and controllers, vibration velocity measurements are made simultaneously from three different directions for each respective sample point. The three sensors are controlled centrally by the PSV measurement and control software.
Performing a typical measurement involves these simple steps:
- Free positioning of the sensor heads in front of the object to be measured
- Train the space coordinate system
- Define the sample points on the object
- Set the parameters for analog and digital acquisition of measurement values
- Start scan
- Evaluate and/or export the data
Accessories
PSV-A-T31 Tripod System
The new motorized PSV-A-T31 support stand allows you to quickly and easily position three PSV-I-400 Scanning Heads to make measurements with the PSV-400-3D Scanning Vibrometer. The castors on the frame make the system mobile. By folding in the arms, it is easily maneuvered in tight places and transported through normal doors.

With adjustable feet, the support system can be set up safely and positioned on location. The height of the trio of sensor heads can be set between 600 mm and 1,700 mm by a motorized lift. The star-shaped arra ngement of the assembly arms positions the top scanning head at heights of up to 2,500 mm. The modular design allows quick adaptation to a wide range of measurement tasks with alignment in almost any measurement direction.
