Scanning Vibrometer Training Course

Ann Arbor, MI, 6/11/2008 - 6/11/2008

Weber's Inn, West Ballroom

This training course provides hands-on, intermediate level training in the use of Polytec’s PSV-400 Scanning Vibrometer. The attendees will improve their ability to take accurate data for dynamic analysis, FEM verification and NVH testing used extensively in the automotive and aerospace industries. In addition to reviewing basic theory, hardware and software operation, new enhancements are also presented such as the latest software (rev. 8.5) and hardware changes (Geometry Scan).  All course participants will train on the latest Polytec PSV-400 equipment.  The course will help refine the participant’s ability to use the software/hardware to acquire data, to export the data and to do basic analysis within the PSV software. Participants are encouraged to bring the specifics of their own application so that details can be discussed during the seminar.

Training Course Agenda

Course Objectives

  1. To review the fundamentals of vibration measurement and analysis
  2. To learn the physics behind laser Doppler vibrometry
  3. To review PSV system terminology, principles of operation and data display options
  4. To individually perform accurate measurements on sample structures (e.g. turbine blade, brakes, exhaust system)
  5. To learn how to set excitation and measurement parameters to achieve the best test results.
  6. To learn application-specific methods and advantages of scanning vibrometry for characterizing structural dynamics.
  7. To learn how the PSV can be integrated into the product development CAE and FEM processes by importing structural designs (geometry import) and exporting measurement data for further processing (modal analysis, FEM verification)
