The HSV sensor is based upon Polytec’s CLV sensor design. It comprises an HSV-800 laser unit housing the interferometer and low-power laser plus the ruggedized and compact HSV-700 Sensor Head. The HSV-700 sensor is available in either fixed and variable focus versions. The fixed focus head has an extra-long depth of field and is recommended for measuring large displacements. The laser unit(s) connects to the HSV controller, which is available for single channel (HSV-2001) or differential (HSV-2002) measurements.
The HSV-2001/2002 incorporates a 10 range displacement decoder with a best resolution of 0.32 µm (range dependent) and a maximum displacement of ± 1280 mm. In addition there is a single range velocity decoder for vibration frequencies up to 50 kHz and a fixed ranging of 5 m/s/V.
Applications such as valve train testing require differential measurements. One laser beam is targeted onto the valve while the other is directed onto the cylinder. The HSV-2002 provides separate velocity outputs for channel 1, ch 2 and ch 1 – ch 2. The displacement information is available for ch 1 and ch 1 – ch 2. The desired velocity and displacement output signals are selected via a rotary switch on the front panel.
Both controllers feature a large signal level display showing on a bar-graph the amount of return signal from the test object. The actual displacement range is selected via push buttons and indicated on an LCD display. The displacement measurement can be triggered via a front panel connector, e.g. for starting the measurement at a certain cam shaft position.
